Susan is on a continuous creative journey, starting out as a talented painter, then finding success as ceramicist, and her latest art medium reveals her as a highly gifted sculptor – with something of the fashion designer thrown in!

Susan's new art medium allows her complete freedom of expression in creating wonderfully graceful forms that are draped in flowing fabric and have an individuality and presence all of their own. Susan first constructs a framework, which is ‘mummified’ and then ‘dressed’ with a fabric chosen to complement the personality of the figure. To complete the character Susan may choose to ‘dress’ the head and add accessories. The resulting artwork is fluid, elegant and alive; some pieces full of movement and vitality, others are serene and tranquil.

Amazingly, each statue is suitable for siting in or out of doors, as Susan uses an environmentally friendly, water-based textile hardener to ‘freeze’ the fabric in the lines and folds that define her vision. Consequently, the sculptures can be placed all around the garden, in an alcove, sitting on a bench, perhaps, or striding through a flowerbed.

The textile hardener, which is weatherproof and frost-proof, has been successfully tested on a variety of applications in various situations for a number of years - spring, summer, autumn and winter, through sunshine, rain, snow and frost. Each sculpture is individually created using my intuitive life influences, experiences and inspirational thoughts, which are then transformed into physical form, so no two pieces are identical.

Most of Susan's sculptures are created using colour in the textile hardener then highlighted with various complimentary shades/finishes and are less likely to fade in the sun, however, as environmental conditions vary from place to place please expect all colour to fade in varying degrees dependant on where the sculpture is situated, this is a normal process and should add to the character of the work. (Please be advised that the printed fabric sculptures should be used for indoor purposes or placed in full shade positions as the printed fabric WILL fade.)

Please be advised that there may be a slight colour change on some areas when wet but once dry the sculpture will return to it's normal colourful unique self and should last for many years.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS: As every garden sculpture will weather we advise that should you want to clean your sculpture please use a soft cloth/soft brush and gently take off any sign of weathering with some cold water - Do NOT use a pressure hose as this will damage the fabric.
