Please Check The Scan As There Is Occasionaly Some Foxing Or Water Stains Which Show Up On The Scan But Will Be Hidden When Framed These Bird Plates Are Over 100 Years Old And Not Modern Copies Archibald Thorburn (1860 - 1935) Archibald Thorburn Has Been Described As 'The Greatest Ornithological Artist Ever, With A Wonderful Gift For Placing His Bird Subjects In Harmonious Surroundings'. At The Age Of 20, Thorburn'S Work Was Accepted For The Royal Academy Exhibition In London, And In 1887 His Reputation Was Secured By A Commission To Illustrate Lord Lilford'S Coloured Figures Of The Birds Of The British Isles, For Which He Painted 268 Watercolours. Others In This Work By Lilford Are By J. G. Keulemans And Cut From The First Edition Of Lord Lilford'S Classic Coloured Figures Of The Birds Of The British Islands, Published By R. H. Porter, London, 1885-97. Keulemans Was Commissioned To Do The Illustrations For This Work But Was Unable To Complete It Because Of Illness. The Majority Of Plates Were Done By Archibald Thorburn .
